HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Sponsors Cooling/First Aid Station at the 2019 Madison County Fair

(HIGHLAND, IL) – HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland has partnered with the Madison County Fair to provide a cooling/first aid station at this year’s event. Also in the station, fair attendees can receive a free “Personal Health Snapshot.” The HSHS St. Joseph’s Foundation and Rural King will be sponsoring the distribution of free farm safety guides for kids, and medication disposal kits will also be available.

St. Joseph’s Hospital will have trained health professionals on site at the fairgrounds Tuesday, July 23 through Saturday, July 27 from 3 to 7 p.m. Personnel will be available to treat minor injuries, overheating and other medical issues. The station will be located in the HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Pavilion located between the Exhibition Hall and the Food and Beverage Pavilion. Highland Emergency Medical Services will also be on standby if needed.

During the first aid station’s hours, fairgoers can also visit the pavilion to cool off from the summer’s heat. The station will be stocked with fans, water, ice packs and popsicles for children. Sponsors of the station include Edward Jones Advisors: Matt Armentrout, Carl Dempsey and Kevin Dewaele; First Mid Bank & Trust; Highland Machine; Highland Rural King; Oberbeck Grain Company; and The Korte Company.

“Personal Health Snapshot” screenings include height, weight, blood pressure and BMI information, which will be available inside the St. Joseph’s Hospital Pavilion during the week of the fair from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. While supplies last, individuals completing the personal health snapshot will receive a cooling fan.

Information about hospital services will also be available along with health education and medication disposal kits. The take-home Deterra medication disposal kit is designed for small quantities of medications – up to 45 pills, 6 ounces of liquid or 6 patches. By adding water to the pouch, medications are neutralized. The pouch’s environmentally friendly materials can then be disposed in a household’s regular trash.

While inside the Hospital Pavilion, fairgoers can receive giveaways, as well as enter a drawing to win a Drone. Fair attendees can also request a complimentary Farm Safety handbook for kids while they step inside to cool down. One handbook per family is being sponsored by Highland Rural King.
