St. Joseph’s Hospital Helps Community through Support, Education
St. Joseph’s Hospital of Highland offers community members tips on healthful living and support to help them cope with illness. Events in February include:
Diabetic Support Group, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, Jehle Hall. Betty Timmermann, hospital dietitian, will present “Twelve Foods that Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease.” Come here the good news about tea, chocolate, nuts, fish, soy, oats, garlic and more. You’ll even get to taste test!
The diabetic support group typically meets the first Tuesday of the month in fall, winter and spring. For more information, call the hospital’s education department at 651.2766.
Cancer Support Group, 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, Jehle Hall. Sr. Marilyn McCormick, pastoral care associate, will lead “Love Tokens and Valentine Gems,” an opportunity to share and discuss how tokens of love fill our hearts. The group also will hear an update on Daffodil Days, a fund-raising that supports the American Cancer Society.

Mended Hearts, 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, Jehle Hall. Mended Hearts at St. Joseph’s is a local chapter of a national nonprofit organization affiliated with the American Heart Association. It includes more than 24,000 members throughout the United States—a collection of heart patients, health care providers and others with an interest in helping loved ones recover from heart disease. Alzheimer’s Support Group, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, Jehle Hall. The Alzheimer’s Support Group, sponsored by the St. Louis Alzheimer’s Association, offers caregivers for those with dementia an opportunity to relax in a confidential environment, talk with others in similar situations, and learn about research findings as well as services available to Alzheimer’s patients and their families. CPR Training, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, Jehle Hall. The course costs $35. Register by calling the education office at 651.2766.
First Aid Training, 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27. The hospital offers an American Red Cross first aid course, which features information on how to respond to cardiac emergencies, poisoning, bone injuries and illness related to extreme temperatures, and much more. The course costs $35, and participants must have a current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Register by calling 651.2766.
